This season will mark a historic attempt for Gandalf as he looks to be the first team in BFFL history questing for a legendary 3-peat. Coming off back to back championships, Casey will have many targets on his back and will seek one of the biggest challenges in his BFFL tenure trying to win three championships in a row. This year we got to sit down with the back to back champion and without further ado, here is our annual interview with the champion.
Question: Looking back at your two championship seasons, I think the thing that stands out most is how different your roster looks when the season starts vs when it ends. You are notoriously the most active GM on both the waiver wire and working trade deals. How do you think FAAB will affect the league this year and do you think overall it will be a positive change for the league? Will it affect your ability to dominate the waiver wire?
Casey: Yeah so I’m very familiar, with FAAB. I’m interested to see how much FAAB is spent out the gate and how every GM spends their FAAB. I do believe it’s a step in the right direction and this year will be the year to figure out the kinks. I will be just as active on waivers and possibly even more aggressive.
Question: Speaking of last season, I think the biggest storyline of the draft was how far Ja’Marr Chase fell in the draft with all of his negative pre-season buzz, and then he lands up on your championship team in the 7th round. It would be difficult to repeat, but do you feel like you found a mid to late round gem and how do you feel about your draft in general this season?
Casey: Last year J’Marr Chase was an incredible rookie talent and so this year I landed my favorite rookie WR yet again in Garrett Wilson. I by no means expect him to do what Chase did, however if he can come out and start getting into his groove my mid season that would be ideal. I do also like the potential of Lockett. His QB situation is the reason why he fell in the draft however his talent is still there. If the Seahawks figure out a way to score I think Lockett will have been a mid round steal. I feel great about my draft in General.
Question: What are some rule changes you would like to see implemented in the future and/or how do you think the league can be improved in the future?
Casey: The main rule change would be a change of platform. ESPN has made almost virtually no changes in years. I believe a change in platform to Sleeper would help the entire league become more competitive, make the draft easier on Commish, challenge GMs to do more trades, etc. the list really goes on and on.
Question: Undoubtedly you will have a huge target on your back as you are going for the historic three-peat attempt. Looking around the league after the draft, who do you think are some of the biggest threats to your championship this season?
Casey: I think the Spartans, Raptors, and Bruce are some legit contenders. There are a few others as well that I look at and wish they had worse drafts. But the competition is real this year and I look forward to the challenge of taking home a 3rd ring.
