Disclaimer: Just as my annual reminder, the power rankings are not subjective. They are your current seedings if the playoffs started today as determined by the tiebreaker protocols agreed upon by the league. Never look at your ESPN standing as an accurate determination of your playoff seeding: they determine tiebreakers differently than how we do. Always consult the power rankings on a weekly basis to know where you stack up and feel free to contact me if you have any questions at any point or feel like you are ranked incorrectly based on statistical error(s). As usual the top four playoff spots are always reserved for the four division winners and the final two wildcards are the best records after that. The tiebreaker protocol is as follows:
For two teams tied:
-Head to head record
-Divisional Record
-Points Scored
-Real NFL points scored (combination of touchdowns, field goals, safeties and extra points scored by starters and bench)
-Coin Flip
For three or more teams tied:
-Divisional Record
-Points Scored
-Real NFL points scored (combination of touchdowns, field goals, safeties and extra points scored by starters and bench)
-Coin Flip
With that let’s get to the Week 1 Power Rankings…
1.) Korriban Warriors
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 112.1
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The Aaron Rodgers & Davante Adams stack was the most successful pairing of Week 1 and led to a monster fantasy day. After a strong finish to the 2019 season the Warriors look to pick up unfinished business and seek out their first title.
2.) Mahomies Deezflated Nuts
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 110.4
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: MD Nuts continues their dominance in the power rankings with another strong Week 1 outing which was the epitome of #LetRussCook in a monster 4 touchdown performance. All of the receivers chimed in as well and one of the biggest X factors this season will be the continued development of TJ Hockensen into an elite tight end.
3.) Bruce Almightys
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 101
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The defending champion got off to a strong start and showed they are still a legitimate contender this year. The first two round teammates of Dalvin Cook and Adam Thielen combined for four touchdowns and carried the load.
4.) Elk Grove Spartans
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 90.3
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: Lamar Jackson did not miss a beat as the Spartans steamrolled carrying on that MVP season of last year. The revelation of Laviska Shenault in Week 1 bodes well for a team that struck gold late in the draft last year with DJ Chark and Terry Mclaurin.
5.) SLAM BALL 2K20
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 96.7
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: This might be a case of winning the battle but losing the war as SLAM BALL is decimated with injuries to three out of four running backs and one of the starting receivers.
6.) Team Banana Boat
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 85.5
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: Even with a zero on the starting lineup from Kenny Golladay, the Banana Boat who I projected as one of the stronger teams in the league were able to get a Week 1 victory. The running back duo might be the best in the fantasy league as Clyde Edwards-Helaire looks like a legitimate star in the making.
7.) Dr. Jenious
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 83.5
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The doctor returned from the moon with a victory on Monday night led by a strong Josh Allen performance. One of the best things they did in the draft was lock up in the backfield with Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines who look to both have great fantasy value this season who will share the load with Marlon Mack’s season ending injury.
8.) Sacramento Wolfpack
Overall Record: 1-0
Divisional Record: 1-0
Total Points Scored: 77.9
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The Wolfpack faced some bad Week 1 performances but were able to squeak out a Week 1 win behind Chris Carson’s strong Sunday performance. I expect bounce backs from AJ Brown and Matthew Stafford soon as this was one of the stronger teams I projected this season.
9.) Uur UPS
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 78.2
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The silver lining in the loss was that Christian McCaffrey can survive a “bad team” and coaching change and maintain all of his stud fantasy value and Kyler Murray looks to be on pace taking the big second year jump that most people had projected.
10.) Lin Sanity
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 74.2
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: It was a close Week 1 loss for Lin Sanity but they saw a lot of solid performances and the shining star was first round pick Josh Jacobs. Having a cool 22 on the bench from Darius Slayton gives this team a lot of versatility with lineups throughout the season.
11.) Pool of the Dead
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 73.8
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The late scratch to Miles Sanders on Friday afternoon was devastating and they were unable to recover from that. I think the best thing that came out of this week was seeing the re-emergence of Juju as a WR1 with Ben Roethlisberger behind the helm.
12.) ODB Loves 2B S**t On
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 68
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: New guy Nic found himself in a stinky situation with Odell Beckham’s meager 2.2 fantasy stat line. There were rumors swirling on Tuesday that Odell Beckham and Allen Robinson may seek trades which could drastically improve this team’s outlook. The one thing I am optimistic about is the bench depth and the high volume of Matt Ryan passing potential with 37 completed passes for 450 yards.
13.) Ernie’s Rubber Duckies
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 66.6
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: Tough break for the Rubber Duckies as they saw their star receiver get diagnosed with a sprained ankle and he could be on the shelf for a while. One of the most interesting debuts of the week was seeing Tom Brady in a Buccaneers jersey and honestly I did not get a good sense of where this season might be going for him.
14.) Da Moon’s Huge Craters
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 66
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The silver lining this week is definitely the late free agent addition of Malcolm Brown who has a definite role with two goal line touchdown carries on the Rams. The question moving forward will be monitoring if Leonard Fournette will get the job back in the starting lineup.
15.) Gandalf the Goat
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 64.8
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: Right off the bat I thought JK Dobbins was the steal of the draft and he is going to have a strong role on one of the best rushing attacks in the league. As this team gets healthier and gets back Deebo Samuel they will only get better throughout the season.
16.) Philippines Garbage Dumps
Overall Record: 0-1
Divisional Record: 0-1
Total Points Scored: 57.6
Position Last Week: N/A
Notes: The PGD saw some disappointing performances from Carson Wentz and Joe Mixon in Round 1. However the bright side is Kareem Hunt definitely has a bigger role than anticipated in the Browns run game. Another interesting factor will be how the team manages the QB position with Cam Newton showing he is starting caliber with a strong bounceback debut to the season.
