On Thursday afternoon, the Competition Committee unanimously voted in a COVID stimulus bill to help alleviate potential roster issues with the mystery surrounding the upcoming NFL season. The bill will introduce an additional set of temporary rules for the 2020 season with the kill switch of refunding all league dues and voiding any payouts in the event that the NFL season is cancelled at any point this season. The official press release came from CC member and defending Superbowl champion Bryce Coalwell and read as follows:
The competition committee has unanimously agreed to enact the following COVID-19 relief package effective immediately for the 2020-2021 BFFL season. The following relief items will only be in effect for the 2020-2021 season and all BFFL rules and bylaws will revert back to normal following the end of the season.
Emergency package #1 (additional packages will be addressed as concerns arise)
1) Draft timer – the draft pick times will remain. The same as allotted in the BFFL bylaws. However, if a GM(s) needs additional time to make a pick due to connectivity issues, they will be granted additional time. If the CC feels that this regulation is being abused, they will enforce the BFFL bylaws resulting in the deferment of the draft pick to the end of the round.
2) IR slots – Increase to the number of IR slots from 1 to 3 to allow for additional roster space for players under COVID-19 quarantines.Stipulation: the additional 2 IR slots are to be used solely for players out due to COVID-19. All 3 IR spots may be used for COVID-19 players. Think of it as 1 IR being a flex injury or COVID-19 slot while the other 2 are solely for COVID-19.
3) Increased transaction limit – Increase to the number of free agency transactions from 20 to 25.Addendum: The CC may increase this transaction limit at any point during the season if they see additional transactions may be needed with a majority vote by the CC.
4) Premature ending of the NFL season – if the NFL season ends at any point prior to the completion of the BFFL season all buy-ins will be refunded or transferred to the following year. All weekly high score winners will be voided and no payouts will be issued.
